Connecting Families, Boosting Economies

Over a third of all Americans will travel each year during the holidays. According to the AAA, or The American Automobile Association, 119 million people will travel during the holiday season. These record high numbers show an economic phenomenon that impacts the transportation, hospitality and tourism industries, but how exactly does it do this?

Transportation During the Holidays

During the holiday season, airlines and other ways of transportation are in high demand. Traveling by plane increases by around 30%. Because of this, airlines will increase their prices, due to high demand, generating more revenue for the company.

Hospitality in Peak Season

With more people traveling to new places during the holiday season, hotels increase their marketing and service efforts, in order to generate more revenue. Strategic planning is crucial during this season, and hotels may offer bundled stays, unique experiences or holiday-themed offers so they can get as much money as possible.

Tourism Thrives During Holidays

With the transportation industry increasing during the holiday season, the tourism industry significantly does too. With the increased leisure time, festive attractions catch the attention of many individuals. These attractions, along with increased consumer spending, boost the tourism industry, as well as local businesses.

The Power of Holiday Movement

Because of the increase of consumer spending, the transportation, hospitality, and tourism industries all have an increase of revenue during the holidays. These economic benefits do not only boost local businesses or individual companies, but can also drive job creation, boost local economies, or economic growth overall. While the holiday season can be stressful for some, it creates opportunities for innovation and economic growth. The holidays do not only connect families or individuals with one another, but also power economies.
